A massive fire has been out of control since 2:30 PM on the boardwalk in Seaside Park, NJ.
Over 19+ businesses have been destroyed and water is in short supply. Lines have been run to the bay to pump more water. Live online scanner is available at radio reference:

A trench has been cut through the boardwalk to try and stop fire from going into Seaside Heights.
Jersey shore was hit last year with the storm and now this.
Only hope the insurance will cover the rebuild.

Beach Day
With the temps nearing 90 F, today would be the perfect day to spend on the beach but unfortunately I am stuck in the office. So the next best thing to tease me is the live video feed from Seaside Heights.

As of 9AM the beach is starting to fill up. This is where the new broadwalk has been rebuilt from last years storm.

Unofficial Summer End
School is back in session on Tuesday and Wednesday for both my kids, time flies as your having fun and of course getting older. The family did have a few days at the Jersey shore, ocean temps around 78 deg., nice. I also was able to cast a line into the ocean as my son was the camera man. But the wonderful part was the family time together on the beach and the backyard picnic we had with the parents, brothers, and kids that make it all so very special.
I am looking forward getting outside and play radio before the super cold weather pays us a visit. Plus the bonus is the parks and beaches have less people. My goal this fall is set up and operate a station on the beach, that would be very cool.
First day of fall is September 22, not ready to let summer go yet.

Vacation Time
Just returned from a very hot week at the Jersey shore with temps in the 90F + range. The refreshing ocean was in the seventies and very nice.
On the radio side I packed the FT-857D and a few ham sticks but with the family activities going on never had a chance to power up. I plan on making up for that this coming weekend.
I missed one heck of a fast moving storm Saturday that broke the heat wave. Check out the video of a girl jumping from the sky ride at Seaside Heights, NJ when the lighting started flying. I saw an interview with her on TV this morning and she was OK. The jump was 35 feet into the sand helped break the fall.
Surprised the ride operators did not get a storm warning.
The question is would you have jumped?

Jersey Shore
Spent the last few days at the Jersey shore with the family for the annual end of summer getaway.
Hurricane Earl went by with some mighty strong winds which made for a wicked undertow in the Atlantic, which kept us out of the water until Saturday. It also put a damper on my bay kayak trip, the wind was not fun on the water.
We did spend a wonderful afternoon at Island Beach State Park. The day before the storm it was a beautiful sunny day and the beaches were just about empty with the storm on its way.
My only regret is I did not bring a radio with me, a deserted beach would have been a blast to go on the air with the ocean view in front of me.
I still have the fall season for another trip or two for some beach portable.
