Hot Week!

This week will be a good test for the air conditioners with the temps in the ninety degrees range and hearing on Wednesday 95 F. This is a good time to hide indoors and stay cool.

For the past two Saturdays I have been volunteering with my son on a field clean up and an event for physically challenged kids. The event was a wonderful experience and the kids had a ball. It was fun to help out will be back next year.

Sunday took off for a few hours of fly fishing and trail hiking. Caught one rock bass, it was nice to be by the waters edge and get away for some quiet time. In the afternoon I set up the Buddipole in the yard and checked out 40 meters with the Ten-Tec R4020 QRP rig. Not one contact in my limited time operating in the shade but always nice cruising the bands checking out the conditions.

Unofficial Summer End

 

Labor day is the unofficial end of summer even if the calendar says we still have a few more weeks left.

School is back in session on Tuesday and Wednesday for both my kids, time flies as your having fun and of course getting older. The family did have a few days at the Jersey shore, ocean temps around 78 deg., nice. I also was able to cast a line into the ocean as my son was the camera man. But the wonderful part was the family time together on the beach and the backyard picnic we had with the parents, brothers, and kids that make it all so very special.

I am looking forward getting outside and play radio before the super cold weather pays us a visit. Plus the bonus is the parks and beaches have less people. My goal this fall is set up and operate a station on the beach, that would be very cool.

First day of fall is September 22, not ready to let summer go yet.

Future Hikes

A few weeks ago I did some fishing in a local stream here in New Jersey and was checking out a potential spot for some portable radio activity.

The only issue was the snake warning signs made me think twice. This particular hike might have to wait until the cold weather is here and everyone is tucked in for the winter.



Besides the snakes you have to keep an eye out for the black bears. I could see myself calling cq and hearing a rattle close by.

That might be an issue I would rather not deal with.
